Blog: Sustainability Is Teamwork at The Event Production Show

The team behind the Event Production Show are focusing on cutting the event’s environmental impacts for next years edition, at the ExCel Centre, London 1-2 March 2023. In this guest blog they share news of their strategy and the partners who are helping them cut the event’s carbon footprint, from venue ExCel London’s commitment to carbon neutrality, the collaboration between event industry charity ecolibrium and You.Smart.Thing which is helping visitors reduce travel emissions and carbon balance unavoidable CO2, to how sustainability will feature in the programming. Read the blog below:

An in-person event that holds an average of 1000 attendees produces approximately 530 metric tons one CO2, with travel being the largest source of emissions from live events.

Taking practical steps on the way to sustainability has become an essential part of event planning. The Event Production Show 2023 is just around the corner, and we are preparing to welcome an estimated 3,500 visitors to ExCel London. Whereas it is a great opportunity for us to unite the live event industry, bringing visitor numbers up to pre-pandemic levels, cutting CO2 emissions from travel and can be a challenging task.

Thanks to our partners, Ecolibrium and You.Smart.Thing, we can now help our visitors to optimise their journey to the venue, encouraging low-carbon travel. Creating a sustainable event is all about action. ExCeL London has been certified carbon neutral, setting the highest standard for our industry. As the live event community is on the path to net zero, there is a lot more that can be done for the environment. What is included in EPS’s sustainability strategy so far?

  • removing aisle carpeting
  • utilising local suppliers
  • using recyclable lanyards
  • replacing printed show guides brochures and maps with the event app

But this is just a start! We’re looking forward to sharing more ideas about how you can make your events more sustainable on 1-2 March at ExCeL London.

Sharing inspiring ideas about sustainability has always been at the heart of the Event Production Show, and our forthcoming event is no different. We are set to deliver a series of seminars where we will discuss:

  • We have a moral obligation to create sustainable events but what is the threat to your business plan if you do not embrace it and make it part of your plan?
  • How does the industry commit to and successfully reach net zero by 2030?
